About Katie

Katie is a copywriter from Dayton, Ohio who noticed, three Christmases ago, that every "gifts for grandpa" list online had clearly never met one. Her own grandfather — a retired postal carrier with one route, one recliner and one wallet he has owned since 1997 — is the reason she started writing these guides instead of buying another gift set nobody opened.

She writes about the gap between a product listing and a man in a chair: which decade he still measures things against, which hobby actually fills his week, which "senior-friendly" feature is a real design decision and which is a marketing sticker, and where personalizing something earns its premium instead of just adding one.

Persistent interests: postcards, the correct way to frame a grandchild's drawing, squirrel-proof bird feeders as an arms race, and any story that starts in 1974 and takes an hour.

How Katie works

  • The decade, not the age bracket

A man who was thirty in 1974 has different taste from a man who was thirty in 1994. Start with his era and the shortlist stops looking like a hospital gift shop.

  • Buy for the chair he sits in

The room he spends four hours a day in tells you more than any age-based list: what is within reach, what is worn out, and what he has quietly put up with for years.

  • Features quoted, never claimed

When a guide mentions button size, grip width, print size or volume range, it is what the manufacturer or the listing states, and we say so. We report no measurements of our own and give no health advice.
